We want to make sure that all our children do as well as they can and achieve their full potential. The main way we achieve this is through providing quality first teaching, which caters for the differing needs of the children in the class.

However, an intervention may be necessary to further support a child's development and understanding. Interventions may run within a particular area of the curriculum or to support the development of social skills, self confidence or self esteem. As a school, we use a range of specific interventions for the core subjects of English and Mathematics as well as for speech, language and communication. These interventions may run on a one to one basis or in small groups. The intervention programmes we regularly run are listed below, however this is not an exhaustive list. 

Children are identified for intervention using a range of methods that include data tracking, (attainment and progress), teacher assessment, classroom observation and informal observations of the children in the classroom and in the playground.

At Grasmere Academy, we work with outside agencies such as the Dyslexia, Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and Language and Communication Teams. Interventions designed for children by these teams are carried out in school with advice and guidance fro the teams. 

PLEASE NOTE that children identified for intervention are not always lower attaining children and may be selected if teaching staff believe that they have the capacity for accelerated progress. Children may also be asked to work as a supportive peer or role model in an intervention group. 

If your child is identified to take part in one of our intervention programmes either to support, boost or as a supportive role model, you will be informed of this by the class teacher and you will be given an update on the impact of the intervention during parents evening.
