What is the Sports and PE Funding?
The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide new, ‘substantial primary school sport funding’. This funding is being jointly provided by the Department for Education, Department for Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
The sport funding will be “ring-fenced” so can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
The aims of the funding is to ensure children have opportunities to:
-
Lead healthy lifestyles
-
Enjoy Physical Education and sport in schools
-
Experience high quality Physical Education and sport
-
Compete against their peers
-
Achieve sporting excellence
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Grasmere Academy receives £16,970 per annum
At Grasmere Academy we aim to ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate in activities such as games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and athletics – through a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum.
Children also have the opportunity to engage in competitive sports such as Hoops for Health, Hockey Festivals, Football tournaments and Athletic tournaments, competing with other local schools across North Tyneside. We have committed funds to providing many enrichment activities and will subsidise this in terms of transport
Grasmere Academy also buys into the North Tyneside PE and Sport SLA (£1000) to provide professional development opportunities across the school, as well as developing curriculum leadership and access to competition opportunities.
Extra Curricular Activities like Early Bird exercise classes before school as well as after school clubs for football, multiskills and ball skills are funded for the children
An outdoor gym was been installed for the children to take regular exercise.
Every year we also hold a Health and Sports week that focuses on providing a range of sporting activities for the children, but also address health issues in terms of raising awareness for the dangers of smoking, drugs and obesity. It is also planned that equipment will be brought for this to enhance the opportunity of children accessing traditional and alternative sports.
