Year 3 Hedgehogs

Teacher - Miss Sutton
Teaching Assistant - Mrs Revitt
This term we have a very exciting geography project! We are going to be exploring and comparing the
United Kingdom, with a focus on England, to Greece.
The children will name and locate counties and cities of the United Kingdom, geographical regions and their
identifying human and physical characteristics. We will also explore key topographical features (including
hills, mountains, coasts and rivers), land use patterns and understand how some of these aspects have
changed over time. They will compare this to Greece and create a portfolio on their iPads.
As always, we will be enjoying a range of books during reading for pleasure and guided reading. Our class
read this term is ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold which will enable us to discuss environmental issues
including climate change. We will also be exploring ‘The Journey’ by Neil Griffiths and Scott Mann. Year 3
will follow the journey of a child's boat along a stream, to a river and beyond. From this, we will explore
the water cycle and make pollution/area comparisons.
In our literacy lessons, the children will be diving into a meeting tale followed by a newspaper report about
Greece.
In maths, we are going to be learning about fractions/decimals, length and perimeter. Alongside this, we
will be exploring statistics and money.
We will be looking at Matthew Cusick and his artwork. The children will be using this as inspiration to
create their own artwork with a focus on water and maps. In DT, they will also be creating their own
models of rivers, hills and mountains from either the UK or Greece. They will first design it then make and
evaluate it.
