Geography Curriculum

Geography Curriculum Vision:

At Grasmere Academy, our learners are encouraged to be inquisitive, to pose questions and seek answers. Through understanding geography and the complexity of our planet, we believe that our children will develop respect for the physical environment and the diverse range of cultures and beliefs that make up our world. Our children will be self-aware of the impact they can have on our planet. Our geography curriculum allows children to build resilience and become problem solvers. We want our children to be curious about the world, open-minded and also responsible for the actions and choices they make.

We provide children with many opportunities to use a range of geographical skills to help them understand, present, analyse and communicate a range of information either collaboratively or as an individual. These skills are put into practice both inside and outside the classroom through local fieldwork and trips. We want geography to be creative, fun and, above all, to be relevant and meaningful to the children’s own lives and experiences. We seek to broaden children's real-life experiences both inside and outside of school through educational visits, visitors, exploration and discovery. We encourage the use of cross curricular links, encompassing the use of subjects such as technology, art, and mathematics as well as allowing opportunities to develop our literacy skills.

The Impact of our Curriculum: We intend to give our children strong geographical knowledge. This will support their understanding of the world and guide them into being innovators, problem solvers, critical and creative thinkers. Alongside this, they will be shaped into respectful citizens on the world which will support the children in their journey to high school and beyond.
