Maths Curriculum Vision:
Aims of Mathematics at Grasmere Academy
We are continually aiming to raise the standards of achievement of the pupils in Grasmere Academy.
The mathematics teaching at Grasmere Academy is geared towards enabling each pupil to develop within their capabilities; not only the mathematic skills and understanding required for later life but also an enthusiasm and fascination about maths itself.
We aim to increase pupil confidence in maths so they are able to express themselves and their ideas using the language of mathematics with assurance.
The National Curriculum from 2014 states in regards to maths:
By the end of Year 4, pupils should be able to recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12. From May 2020 the government have introduced a time tables test for all Year 4 children.
This change means it is important for the children to learn their times tables facts and to be able to recall them quickly and accurately.
To support their learning of times tables the children have access to Times Table Rock Stars which is an online game. We hope that this will improve their rapid recall, knowledge and understanding of multiplication.
We will continue to work within school to help your child learn their times tables, but we also hope they will be encouraged to practise them at home.
We would like all children to succeed at their Times Tables and have included below a helpful booklet for you to use at home, which includes strategies that we use at school. You can also access our Times Table workshop presentation below:
The links below provide interactive activities to help make learning tables fun.
